Hi, I'm Sarah O’Neill, a Clinical LMSW passionate about supporting parents as they navigate the joys and challenges of raising children while caring for their own mental health. While I have a special passion for working with parents, I also support individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, and life transitions, helping them build resilience and prioritize their mental well-being.
When I'm not in the office, you'll usually find me spending time with my husband, our two kids, and our two dogs. I enjoy hiking, gardening, reading, baking, and finding joy in the small, imperfect, everyday moments.
Population?
I have experience working with ages 4 through adulthood. I have spent most of my career working with kids and teens. I enjoy working with littles to learn key skills to manage big emotions, helping kids navigate the complexities of growing up and all that comes with it, and helping teens learn to prioritize their mental health while facing the challenges of middle and high school. When working with kids and teens, I find partnering and collaborating with their parents is essential to the child’s progress. Through this work, I discovered my passion for working with parents. Parenting is hard! It is likely the hardest and yet most rewarding journey in life. I love working with parents who are looking for support in navigating parenting, supporting their child who is dealing with mental health-related struggles, and working with parents who need general support in navigating life while prioritizing their own mental health.
In-person or online or both?
I offer both in-person and online sessions.
Where did you study?
I completed my master's in social work at the University of Michigan in 2017 and my undergraduate degree in social work at Grand Valley State University in 2016. Go Lakers and Go Blue!
What's a movie or TV show you never get tired of watching?
This is a tough one! Gilmore Girls is a classic and one I never get tired of and have seen every episode multiple times. However, I love the mystery of solving crimes. It started with watching Murder She Wrote with my grandparents. I am a huge fan of Law and Order SVU, and most recently enjoyed watching Psych and Monk.
Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
I have two dogs! Luna is a Native American Shepherd, my O.G. baby before kids, and Kyra is a Native American Indian Dog, and absolutely the troublemaker. Let's just say she has escaped from the borders twice, but that's a story for another time!
If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be?
There's two skills and I really couldn't choose just one. I would like to master a second language, specifically, American Sign Language. And I would like to master one recipe - homemade cinnamon rolls. Not quite there but I am constantly trying and determined to conquer this one.
How do you like to reset after a busy work day or week?
I would not say no to a spa day! And occasionally, or a treat is what I choose to do. Most weekends, I enjoy going for walks with my family and spending time outside. Most mornings, I like to start my day with a tea, mocha, or chai tea latte, and most evenings I spend time doing a devotional or reading my Bible.
What's one hobby you enjoy outside of work?
Again, I can't choose one! I love gardening and taking care of my many houseplants. I also really enjoy hiking, exploring local, state, and metro parks. Many of our family vacations are to visit and hike national parks (we have so far crossed off 18 of them). As my three-year-old says, how cool is it that God made such beautiful places for us to explore?!
